MtGox’s Karpeles resigns from Bitcoin Foundation board
Bitcoin exchange MtGox has resigned from its place on the Bitcoin Foundation board, according to a blog entry by Bitcoin Foundation executive director and board member Jon Matonis.
The Bitcoin Foundation is a trade group with a mission to promote, standardise, and protect the popular cryptocurrency.
Matonis says that the change is "effective immediately", and that the Bitcoin Foundation is grateful for MtGox's "early and valuable contributions as a founding member in launching the Bitcoin Foundation."
The resignation sees one of the Bitcoin Foundation's three elected industry member seats made vacant, and MtGox CEO Mark Karpeles off the board of the group.
Beginning its life as a Magic: The Gathering trading website, MtGox has recently been struck by technical problems in dealing with a Bitcoin problem known as "transaction malleability".
MtGox's claim that this was due to a flaw with Bitcoin saw an official response from the Bitcoin Foundation. MtGox's social media presence is now looking a little barren, as the exchange has deleted all of its tweets.
Bitcoin is currently trading at around $570.
