Canary Wharf Crossrail building to launch before station opens
CANARY Wharf’s new Crossrail building is set to open next year – three years before the station starts operating.
Plans for the six-storey building were released yesterday, with glimpses of the semi-open plan balcony for waterside diners.
The first firms to occupy the Foster + Partners-designed development include the Everyman Cinema, a Sports Bar and Grill and Mexican restaurant Poncho 8.
The 115,000 sq ft retail and leisure development above the new Crossrail Station, combined with the recent Jubilee Place extension, makes it one of the largest retail expansions currently being built in the UK.
It will include retail areas on four of the six floors, a landscaped park, community facility and restaurant, covered by a timber lattice roof.
Canary Wharf Group’s Camille Waxer, said: “It’s very important for us to offer a varied experience to our loyal customers and we look forward to welcoming them…in May 2015.”
