Fantastic Finch earns Australia first summer win over England
ENGLAND captain Stuart Broad conceded the majestic innings of Australia batsman Aaron Finch proved decisive in the tourists’ 39-run win in yesterday’s Twenty20 international at Southampton.
The 26-year-old became the first Australian to hit an international 100 in the reduced over format, doing so in 47 balls to become the second fastest centurion in history.
Finch was eventually bowled out by Jade Dernbach (3-34) after amassing 156 off 63 balls as Australia finished on 248-6. England, led by Joe Root (90), scored 209-6 in reply and Broad accepted full credit had to go to Finch.
“It was just incredible striking of the ball,” he said. Sometimes you have to say you were outplayed.
“History tells us it would be a good wicket, but nobody expected it to be quite that good.
“There’s 11 guys in the England dressing room disappointed, but everyone enjoyed the experience.
“Hopefully the pitch at Durham can produce the same entertainment on Saturday.”
