Are JetCards the Oysters of the skies? Air Partner sells record amount of top-ups
The UK’s strengthening economy and corporates’ increased willingness to use private jets have helped Air Partner to sell more than £5m worth of its JetCards in the first six months of the year – more than double the amount they sold for the whole of 2013.
The pre-paid JetCards, likened to TfL’s Oyster cards, have proved popular with FTSE corporates, as well as heads of state and royal families.
“They work just like Oyster cards, you top up a pre-agreed value and it lasts until you’ve flown to that cost,” sales director Vincent Kavanagh told City AM.
“FTSE 100 corporates like them because it means their executives can fly to suit their diaries rather than trying to get about using commercial charter.”
In the six month period, the biggest buyers of Air Partner’s JetCard were Britons with international property and business interests within six hours of London.
There have been 53 JetCard renewals this year so far compared with 61 last year.
The highest value JetCard sold in the period had £1m of prepaid flying hours registered on it and the average value was £200,000.
