Royally minted: Prince George inspires UK’s first ever £20 coin
GET YOUR orders in for Prince George memorabilia. The Royal Mint announced the creation of the first-ever £20 coin yesterday, and the new silver piece of bling is a limited edition featuring the “St George and the Dragon.”
The same design was used earlier this year on a £5 coin to mark Prince George’s birth. Sadly only 250,000 of the new collectible coins will be made, and each will – not surprisingly – cost exactly £20. Yet there won’t be a gold rush to snap them up. The mint items will be limited to three per household. Only UK residents are able to buy the coins, which will be legal tender, but “won’t be in general circulation for everyday use,” say the Mint-makers.
