Visas should be relaxed for entrepreneurs
WIKIPEDIA founder Jimmy Wales has called on the government to make the capital more enticing to entrepreneurs by changing the rules on their visas.
“I think we could go much further with [the entrepreneur visa], make it easier to get, make it possible to bring in more people. Those kind of things are quite critical,” Wales said at Campus Party, a week long technology festival at the O2 on Wednesday.
Currently the entrepreneur visa gives those wanting to start or buy a UK business a three year grant to work in the UK, as long as the individual has £200,000 of funds.
Wales, while talking on a panel with chancellor George Osborne, encouraged the government to ease some of the rules of the entrepreneur visa in order to attract more foreign talent.
“Nobody wants to live in San Jose, California. It’s incredibly boring,” Wales joked.
