£650m Google campus given final approval
A SWIMMING pool and running track are both features of Google’s new £650m UK headquarters that was granted final approval by Camden Borough Council yesterday.
At 924,000 square feet and 300 metres long – as long as the Shard is tall – it will be the longest known commercial building.
The campus will also include, a staff cafe, multi use games area, gym and wellness facilities, an audio visual studio, auditorium and events centre.
There will be sixteen shopping, food and drink units making up 50,000 square feet of the ground floor facing out onto King’s Boulevard.
Also included on the campus will be a 570 space staff cycle park and a number of external landscaped gardens.
Google will use the new campus to relocate up to 5,000 staff, who are currently spread around Covent Garden and Victoria, under one roof.
Historically Google has leased overseas offices for its staff, but in the last two years it has begun constructing its own offices in Dublin and Paris.
The plans for the new London headquarters were designed by Allford Hall Monaghan Morris.
