Surge in London living costs as rents jump to £2,192 a month
LONDON rents increased in August after pausing for six months, according to numbers out yesterday from estate agency Move with Us.
Rents in the capital increased 1.74 per cent in August to an average of £2,192, though that is still 3.38 per cent below the level a year ago.
The increases come at a time when house prices in London are already booming, and the rise in rents may make it even harder to save up for a mortgage deposit.
In the south east rents edged up 0.3 per cent in the month to £1,159, up a solid 3.74 per cent on the year – the biggest increase anywhere in the country.
“The strong performance of London was contrary to the performance of other regions but has been significant enough to push the average for the country up,” said director Robin King.
