Family homes in the suburbs perfect for broody millionaires
Leafy homes near the District Line in Southfields, south west London, break million-pound mark this year, by Melissa York
FAMILY-SIZED homes with space for the children to run around have always been an expensive luxury in London. Southfields was always at the more affordable end of the scale; but not any more. A host of properties there edged above the £1m mark for the first time this year.
Southfields – an area most people will know as the District Line stop you change at to get to Wimbledon – has soared in value and experts say the price tags are only going to climb further.
Over half the homes are now sold at open days, so more viewings can be arranged in one day.
In 2007 four-bedroom houses on “The Grid” – a series of parallel streets that make up the most sought-after residential part of the area – were selling for around £750,000 to £800,000. Now the same houses are on the market for over £1m.
A four-bed detached house in Sutherland Grove, which boasts a conservatory and off-street parking, is currently being sold by Kinleigh, Folkard & Heyward for £1.55m.
Another period-style family home on the grid is currently on the market for £1.05m.
Towards the south of the area – but still only 300m away from Wimbledon Park Underground – the new luxury Ibex House is made up of one, two, and three bed apartments. The development is situated in a prominent position on Arthur Road, SW19, with a range of homes available for up to £825,000.
The apartments are finished with quality kitchens equipped with a full range of integrated appliances, modern bathroom suites and fitted floorings throughout.
On the top floor there are two penthouses providing outside space and views over the city.
Down the road in up-and-coming Putney, Kersfield House is the last remaining penthouse in a development of seven new flats offering panoramic views of Putney and the City.
The penthouse is located on the fifth floor and features an open plan living space with floor to ceiling windows, two bedrooms, access to communal gardens and a parking space. The penthouse is on the market for £700,000.
