Costain wins £150m Crossrail contract to upgrade stations
BRITISH engineering firm Costain yesterday said it had been awarded a £150m contract to provide infrastructure for suburban Crossrail stations in east London.
Costain will deliver major infrastructure improvements, including upgrading the tracks and overhead electrification equipment at stations between Stratford in east London and Shenfield in Essex.
The contract starts immediately, with the main works to take place between late 2014 and 2017.
“We are delighted that Network Rail has awarded us this contract on Crossrail, currently Europe’s largest infrastructure programme and a vital component of the UK’s transport network,” said Andrew Wyllie, chief executive of Costain.
Last month Costain reported a 10 per cent rise in pre-tax profit to £31m and a 25 per cent increase in its forward order book to a record figure of £3bn.
