CSR Award Nominations Shortlist
There’s a new line in business that’s paying real dividends. UK plc is doing good business by doing good. Not some wishy-washy charity glad-handing, but a more enlightened commercial approach. It’s adding to the bottom-line in terms of employee motivation and retention, brand profile and competitive edge. On the other side of the deal, it’s more likely to be business not government that’s driving innovation, impact and sustainable improvement in some of Britain’s most challenging communities.
Across the capital, companies and their employees are putting something back, helping to make London one of the greatest cities on Earth. This new CSR Award showcases the best of the best. The Mayor’s Fund for London congratulates you all.

GRANGE HOTELS
Grange Hotels deliver a diverse mix of projects working closely with many organisations. Their focus is on people, community and the environment, focusing at a local level, as well as internationally. They have a good staff engagement programme that involves employees taking part in a number of activities as well as raising money through their own activities. Grange Hotels also help fund key London venues and events. Key to their programme is the absorption of all associated costs and that all donations go directly to the beneficiaries.
THE BERKELEY GROUP
Since its launch in 2011, the Berkeley Foundation has committed nearly £3m to more than 40 charities and worthwhile causes to help young people and their communities across London and the south-east. The Foundation has a clear vision and focus and their values are aligned with the clear needs of London and its communities. The Foundation is involved in four areas: developing people’s skills, helping them secure a job, ensuring they have a home, and are cared for. The programmes have made real impact which is measured consistently by the Foundation and have supported the development of the agenda in these areas. There is also excellent staff engagement.
GOLDMAN SACHS
Goldman Sachs has made a significant contribution to CSR for many years. In 2011 they supported youth charity, Greenhouse, helping to transform the lives of hundreds of young people in London through the power of sport and play. In 2012 and 2013 they developed programmes focusing in East London, supporting the East London Programme and Greenhouse Bethwin Football Club. Both projects go towards meeting some of the real needs in this area and Goldman Sachs ensure they measure impact and sustainability. There is a committed staff engagement programme running alongside the projects with the aim of improving confidence, skills and opportunities and over 200 employees have taken part in this. The projects are targeted and specific, and there are future plans to keep developing and improving.
LAND SECURITIES
Land Securities projects have been entered by a number of partners and demonstrate how this company has developed long-term relationships with their partners and local communities. The projects are a good example of the private sector working with London and central government and supports hard to reach groups into sustainable employment. The programme is pan-London across the 33 boroughs and offers a holistic package of support. Key activities include an employment strategy, schools programme, charitable giving and pro bono opportunities utilising their employees’ skills and genuine interest to support the communities who most need them. They have a good understanding of the employment sector and how to help young people.
