England slump to series defeat
ENGLAND’S stand-in Twenty20 captain Eoin Morgan has called on his team to beat West Indies tomorrow and go into the forthcoming World T20 on a high.
Morgan last night saw his team suffer a second defeat in three days to lose the T20 series with a match to spare, but wants to leave Bridgetown for Bangladesh with a morale-boosting victory.
He said: “A win [tomorrow] would be good building an upwards curve for the T20 World Cup. I’m confident we can do it.”
The tourists opted to bat first, but slumped to 26-3 thanks largely to the bowling of Krishmar Santokie (4-21). Alex Hales (40) and Jos Buttler (67) soon set about repairing a rain-interrupted innings as England reached 152-7.
But captain Darren Sammy got West Indies over the line with seven balls to spare. Sammy raced to an unbeaten 30 runs off just nine balls, after opener Chris Gayle had powered to 36 off 30 deliveries, including four sixes.
