Microsoft’s approach to tablets is insane: They’re just doing the same thing over and over again
Some analysts are decidely less excited by Microsoft's new Surface 2 tablets than the company themselves. Benedict Evans of Enders Analysis thinks the tech giant is showing signs of insanity, "doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results".
Evans warns that if Microsoft have ordered another chunk of Surface tablets, they'll have the same problems as they did with shifting the last ones. The failure of the original Surface range saw Microsoft take a $900m (£560m) loss on the devices.
There were no huge changes announced with the update to Microsoft's tablet range, and Evans believes that the company has "just iterated a failed product", and have simply "fixed some of the old hardware problems".
Without a new tablet ecosystem, Microsoft remains far too reliant on their Office products being transplanted to a tablet. Failing to commit to the new platform, Evans warns that Microsoft are "really stuck in the middle".
