Give me time to prove I’m right man, says United boss Moyes
UNDER-FIRE Manchester United manager David Moyes insists he needs patience to show he was the right man to succeed Sir Alex Ferguson.
Moyes is aiming to bounce back from Sunday’s derby drubbing at Manchester City in tonight’s Capital One Cup third round clash at home to Liverpool.
“I don’t think it was ever going to be easy and smooth after Sir Alex,” said the former Everton boss.
“There was always going to be days like this and there might well be more days like this. It is not going to be made in one fell swoop. It is going to be done in time. That is why the board realised the job that needed to be done was a long-term one.”
United remain without last season’s top scorer Robin van Persie and Moyes has hinted that fringe players may get a chance.
The Scot also refused to confirm claims by Real Madrid president David Moyes that United were poised to move for Gareth Bale in the summer. “If I was I wouldn’t tell you,” Moyes added. “We don’t talk about it.”
Perez, who paid £85m for Bale, said: “We found out at a certain moment that Manchester United were going to make an offer. That is when we made ours.”
Tonight’s match is expected to see Liverpool’s Luis Suarez return from a 10-match ban for biting.
