Star Sports: Lay of the day
Star Sports owner Ben Keith picks out one horse he’s happy to lay each day
THIS column has nearly been the best tipping line in the country this week! Vautour and Sire De Grugy both won, but thankfully Annie Power saved me from really burnt fingers ahead of the final day of action.
Yet, if BRIAR HILL does the business in the Albert Bartlett today there might just be a pitch up for grabs on-course.
But I’m confident we can get Willie Mullins’ stayer beaten. Unlike Vautour and Faugheen, who have had tall reputations for a long time, last year’s Champion Bumper winner has, by his trainer’s own admission, shown little at home, seemingly saving it for the track.
His form this season is nothing special. After landing a weak maiden over hurdles, the six-year-old won a Grade One match and then a three-runner affair when not particularly impressive. So I’m struggling to understand the confidence that makes him around a 5/4 shot. The same connections saw Boston Bob turned over in this in 2012 when sent off a hot favourite and I’ll be hoping the same happens later.
But you can back him with Star Sports safe in the knowledge that if he finishes out of the frame, you’ll get your money back.
