Prolific Sarries pair keeping try rivalry friendly
SARACENS star David Strettle insists he and fellow wing Chris Ashton are not competing for tries as they look to continue their free-scoring ways, and unbeaten start, at Harlequins tomorrow.
Sarries have scored 117 points in their three Aviva Premiership wins from three with 30-year-old Strettle their most prolific, scoring four of the club’s 13 tries this season.
Ashton was two shy of his team-mate in the Premiership last season with six but Strettle says there is no challenge to read into ahead of Saturday’s visit to London rivals Harlequins.
“Hand on heart Ashy and I don’t have a rivalry as to who scores more tries in a season – although he might tell you differently,” said Strettle.
“Everyone wants to score tries but I think everyone would rather take a team win and that shows with how well everyone is playing right now. He is playing some great rugby too this season and long may it continue.”
By contrast, Wasps host Worcester bidding to end a run of 11 consecutive defeats. The Warriors themselves are on an eight-game losing streak and prop Matt Mullan, who swapped Worcester for Wasps in the summer, believes his new team can win at last.
He said: “Playing at home is always easier and we need to pick up a win somewhere.”
Andy Fenby wants to step out of Marland Yarde’s shadow as London Irish travel to face a Bath outfit fresh from their first defeat of the season to Saracens. Yarde has scored in all three of Irish’s fixtures but Fenby is determined to get in on the act himself.
He said: “It’s been a bit frustrating as not much has come down my wing. Hopefully a few will come my way.”
