Olympic role for Puma boss
NEW British Olympic Association chief executive officer Bill Sweeney believes he can succeed in his new role by following the work done by predecessor Andy Hunt in helping Team GB win 65 medals at the London 2012 Olympics.
The 55-year-old who has held managerial positions at Adidas, Puma and Reebok will be charged with overseeing preparations for next year’s Winter Olympics and the Olympics in Rio in 2016 alongside BOA chairman Lord Sebastian Coe.
Sweeney, who assumes his role next month, said: “It is a privilege to have the opportunity to work with the dedicated team at the British Olympic Association in making certain the United Kingdom’s finest athletes have the resources and support they need to excel on the international stage.
“I look forward to building on the excitement and momentum created by the outstanding performance of Team GB at London 2012.”
