John Lewis retains crown as Britain’s most trusted retailer
JOHN LEWIS has been voted Britain’s most trusted retailer, according to research out today that showed that overall trust in retailers has hit a four-year low.
Of the 10,000 shoppers surveyed by consultancy firm OC&C Strategy, 96 per cent said they trusted the department store group, followed by other heritage brands Marks & Spencer and Waterstones.
Retailers’ reputations have suffered following the horsemeat scandal, the Bangladeshi factory collapse and tax avoidance issues faced by firms such as Amazon.
OC&C’s index, which rates retailers on measures, including price, range and value for money, showed trust in the sector fell by one point over the last year to 70.8 – the lowest since the yearly index started in 2009.
Furniture and entertainment retailers suffered the sharpest fall while discounters were the only category to win trust this year.
Despite the tax scandal, Amazon topped the index as the UK’s favourite retailer thanks to customer service and choice, followed by John Lewis and Apple.
