Harry’s Rangers go for a Burton as Vincelot guns down League Cup royalty in late Midlands salvo
QPR’S sluggish start to the campaign ground to a pedestrian pace after Harry Redknapp’s side crashed out of the Capital One Cup following a shock second-round defeat at League Two Burton Albion last night.
The Loftus Road club have failed to score in their two Premier League game so far this season having misfired against Hull City and Tottenham and their blunt attack once came came unstuck.
Redknapp made nine changes to the team hammered at White Hart Lane on Sunday with former Blackburn forward Junior Hoilett striking the crossbar in the first half.
But that was as close as QPR came to threatening a winner as Burton striker Adam McGurk curled home the only goal of the game in the 77th minute, finding the top corner with a left-footed free-kick.
The other shock of the night also came in the Midlands where Leyton Orient stunned unbeaten top-flight side Aston Villa, a team which has lifted the League Cup five times.
Paul Lambert’s side were no match for their League One rivals as French midfielder Romain Vincelot powered a late header past veteran keeper Shay Given to seal their unlikely passage to the third round.
The home side’s best chance fell to forgotten man Darren Bent who was denied by stopper Gary Woods, with Orient’s reward for dumping out Villa a Brisbane Road showdown with Championship outfit Brighton.
