Banks fear new trade finance rule
Anti-money laundering rules could end up crushing the availability of trade finance to businesses trying to trade with emerging markets, the British Bankers’ Association (BBA) said yesterday. In response to a consultation from the Financial Conduct Authority, the BBA warned tough rules making banks gain details of their clients customers overseas may put an end to trade finance with some countries, as the relevant data often does not exist in emerging markets.
