Rooney to play through pain
MANCHESTER United manager David Moyes revealed striker Wayne Rooney is so determined to start against Bayern Munich tonight, he will take a pain-killing injection if necessary.
Rooney missed Saturday’s 4-0 win over Newcastle with a toe injury, but is set to put his body on the line to help United improve on last week’s 1-1 first-leg draw with the holders to reach the Champions League semi-finals.
Moyes said: “He’ll definitely play. He’s happy to take an injection to play, which shows you his feeling about the game and the club.
“If he is determined to play we’d be mad not to let him do so. We wouldn’t do anything medically wrong.”
Marouane Fellaini and Rafael missed training yesterday and are fitness doubts for United.
Bayern will be without suspended pair Javi Martinez and Bastian Schweinsteiger.
