Ryder next on Bubba’s hitlist
NEWLY-CROWNED double Masters champion Bubba Watson has warned Europe that his next goal is to reclaim the Ryder Cup for the United States at Gleneagles this year.
The American has had a miserable time in the competition, taking just three points from eight matches in two losing appearances, but, having booked his place at September’s renewal with victory at Augusta, the 35-year-old has set his sights on becoming part of only the second United States team this millennium to lift the trophy.
“I love it, going over there and playing golf, so I can’t wait,” he said. “I know a win here is double points, so I figure I made the team. It’s a great feeling. I haven’t won a Ryder Cup yet, so that’s the next big tournament I’d like to win.”
Watson’s second green jacket put him top of the US Ryder Cup rankings and prompted captain Tom Watson to write on Twitter: “Way to go Bubba! Enjoy your victory. See you on the plane to Gleneagles.”
