Tour of Britain 2014 London: Where to watch the cycling route through the capital
The Tour of Britain arrives in London on Sunday, with some of the world’s top cyclists taking to the streets of the capital to battle for the yellow jersey in the final stage of the tour.
Londoners are lucky enough to see many of the elite riders return to the capital for a second time this year after hosting one of the beginning stages of the Tour de France in July.
Reigning champion Sir Bradley Wiggins will be defending his title against fellow Brit Mark Cavendish and Germany’s Marcel Kittel and a host of cyclings top riders.
Time trials will begin at 11am from the starting line at Whitehall when riders set off at one minute intervals to complete a single lap around the course and try to claim the Sprints jersey.
Cyclists will race their way from the heart of Westminster to embankment, cycling along the Thames and through the City to the Tower of London, returning the same way along the river, on to Victoria Embankment, past the Houses of Parliament and back to Whitehall to cross the finish line.
From 3:30pm, the riders will complete circuits of the same route, completing ten laps each to cross the line first and try to claim the Yellow Jersey.
There are plenty of opportunities to catch a glimpse of the riders along the route which takes in a number of London landmarks. The bridges along embankment as well as Upper and Lower Thames street are likely to be good spots to get a clear view of the racers.
Westminster Bridges will be closed to traffic for most of the day and TFL are warning that road closures will affect bus routes in the area.
