David Williams of Ladbrokes with his best bets for today
TODAY’S Doncaster Cup (2.40pm) provides The Queen’s horse ESTIMATE with a superb chance to re-establish herself as a top-class stayer on a track that looks certain to suit.
The former Ascot Gold Cup winner should be backed to finish ahead of Ed Dunlop’s Times Up, who always saves his best for this time of year and this course.
The day begins with the Flying Childers (1.40pm) where COTAI GLORY can reward fans of Charlie Hills. This speedster beat the highly regarded Beacon in the Molecomb and is the selection to dispose of Ger Lyons’ Ainippe, who could be dangerous with the fillies’ allowance.
A good-looking Ladbrokes-sponsored Mallard Stakes (2.10pm) can go the way of SIR WALTER SCOTT, slightly disappointing in the Ebor, but who is still on the upgrade.
Sir Michael Stoute’s Stomachion is being upped in trip and could go well under Ryan Moore, but preference is for Luca Cumani’s improver.
The big one tomorrow, the Ladbrokes St Leger, has a wide-open look to it if you share my doubts over Kingston Hill, who not only has to prove his stamina, but may also find the ground against him.
WINDSHEAR is tremendously consistent and looks sure to relish this trip. I fancy the colt to give Richard Hannon his second Classic of the season.
