Dixons Carphone agrees to hire 800 Phones 4u staff
Dixons Carphone announced today it has agreed to take on the 800 staff employed at the 160 Phones 4u concessions in its stores.
The company released a statement saying it was "pleased to confirm we have secured agreement to offer all Phones 4u colleagues in our curryspcworld stores roles".
The move was hinted at on Monday, when a Dixons Carphone spokesman said the company hoped to "help [Phones 4u staff] secure new jobs with us".
Phones 4u sank into administration at the weekend after Vodafone and EE both withdrew major contracts. It has been reported the pair are now in talks with PricewaterhouseCoopers, the chain's administrators, to acquire some of the stores, which could save more of the 5,596 jobs at risk if Phones 4u closes.
When Dixons and Carphone Warehouse merged earlier this year, they said the number of jobs available at the combined company would rise by four per cent.
