Scots make history with highest ever turnout
MILLIONS of people poured into Scotland’s polling stations yesterday to decide whether or not it will stay part of the UK, with figures released in the early hours of this morning revealing historically high turnouts.
In Clackmannanshire an incredible 88.6 per cent of eligible voters cast their ballots, while in Orkney the figure was 83.7 per cent.
The turnout in some larger cities was on track to exceed 90 per cent.
Peter Kellner of polling firm YouGov said late last night that he was “99 per cent certain of a No victory”.
Alex Salmond and David Cameron are due to give speeches this morning, the Scottish First Minister in Edinburgh and the British Prime Minister in London, as both sides begin the process of evaluation and negotiation following the result.
