Premier League: Van Gaal lashes out over sloppy Reds’ latest flop
LEICESTER CITY 5 MANCHESTER UNITED 3
MANCHESTER United manager Louis van Gaal was left bemoaning his side’s tactical naivety again yesterday after they fell to a third defeat from their opening six games of the season.
A scintillating attacking start saw goals from Robin van Persie and Angel Di Maria put United 2-1 up at the break, with Leonardo Ulloa’s fourth goal of the season cutting the deficit for the home side.
Ander Herrera’s classy back-heel 12 minutes into the second half extended the lead, before United were shell-shocked by four goals in 20 minutes – David Nugent and Ulloa scored from the spot, while Esteban Cambiasso and Jamie Vardy also made it onto the scoresheet.
“We have to look at ourselves because we made such big errors as a team,” Van Gaal said, complaining that his side failed to keep the ball during crucial parts of the match.
“I cannot say that I am happy. We had the game in our pocket and we gave it away. Not because of Leicester City, no – we gave it away.”
