Sainsbury’s paves the way for King’s exit with team reshuffle
SAINSBURY’S has reshuffled its senior management team, paving the way for chief executive Justin King’s departure in July and for a new era under commercial director Mike Coup.
Sainsbury’s announced yesterday that managing director of general merchandise, clothing and logistics Roger Burnley has been made retail and operations director.
He will now lead a newly combined team of supermarkets, convenience and logistics.
Retail director Helen Buck has been promoted to business development director. She will be responsible for developing Sainsbury’s beyond its core businesses, overseeing Mobile by Sainsbury’s and Sainsbury’s Energy, and Sainsbury’s Online.
The retailer’s online business will now be headed by Robbie Feather, who joined from John Lewis in 2011 and is currently business unit development director for general merchandise and entertainment.
Meanwhile Paul Mills-Hicks, Sainsbury’s business unit director for grocery will join the operating board as food commercial director.
King said the changes “will strengthen an already strong leadership team” and ensure a strong transition.
