Broad skips one-day series to maximise Test match chances
ENGLAND fast bowler Stuart Broad has confirmed he will miss the forthcoming one-day international series with Sri Lanka due to a recurrence of a long-standing knee problem, but hopes to be fit for next month’s Test matches.
The 27-year-old was forced to miss two Twenty20 matches against West Indies in March due to patellar tendonitis and will now sit out five one-day internationals with Sri Lanka, who comfortably beat Ireland by 79 runs in Dublin yesterday.
Broad will also miss a T20 international against the same opponents and Friday’s clash with Scotland in Aberdeen as he bids to prolong his summer.
“I’m not going to make the one-day series,” he said. “I’m running this week and I’m bowling next week. It’s important you don’t want to just bowl this week and play next week. I’ve had a month without bowling the ball now.
“You’ve got to build up gradually to make sure I’m 100 per cent ready.”
Broad has pencilled in a return for Nottinghamshire against Durham on 25 May. England play two Test matches against Sri Lanka in June, following by five Tests with India.
