Royal Mail and CWU extend talks over pay and conditions
Recently privatised Royal Mail and the Communications Workers Union (CWU) have agreed to extend talks over workers pay and conditions by a week.
In a joint statement released on Wednesday the two groups said:
Royal Mail and the Communication Workers Union have made significant progress in current talks on legal protections, industrial stability and pay. On this basis, both parties have agreed to a further extension of the legal validity of the current industrial action ballot until 27 November 2013 to allow the time to conclude the discussions.
In October the CWU called off a one-day strike to allow talks to progress. Royal Mail had offered a £300 bonus if staff agreed not to strike, however workers were unpersuaded and voted 4-1 in favour of strike action.
