Rain-affected title for Levy
FRANCE’S Alexander Levy claimed a three-shot victory at the Portugal Masters after rain devastated the tournament and ensured it was determined over just 36 holes.
Heavy downpours and lightning had reduced the competition to 54 holes before the weather interrupted the final round at the Oceanico Victoria Golf Club yesterday.
Levy was leading on 18 under par after round two and, with parts of the course left unplayable by the latest downpour, he was declared the winner ahead of Belgium’s Nicolas Colsaerts.
The Portugal Masters title represents the 24-year-old’s second European Tour win after securing victory at the Volvo China Open in April. Levy said: “If at the start of the year you say to me ‘you are going to win two tournaments’, I would say ‘never’ to you.”
