Amazon debuts same-day pick up service at 500 newsagents, corner shops and London Tube stations
Online retail giant Amazon will this morning announce a same-day pick-up service in partnership with Connect Group’s newspaper and magazine distribution arm, Smiths News.
The service will let customers order goods from Amazon as late as 11.45am for collection at one of 500 newsagents or corner stores from 4pm later that day.
“This is our fastest pick-up service yet,” said Amazon UK managing director Christopher North, adding that the online retailer was looking to continue expanding its network of pick-up locations including Amazon Lockers and Collect+ stores.
“We have recently added Birmingham International Airport and a number of London Tube stations to our ever-expanding list of pick-up locations.
“Our intention is to keep rapidly adding to the many thousands of existing pick-up locations to ensure that customers all over the UK are provided with as much choice as possible when it comes to the delivery of their Amazon order.”
The same-day collection service will initially be free for Amazon Prime customers for a limited time, along with a new express morning collection to participating stores and Amazon Lockers.
Connect Group chief executive Mark Cashmore said: “Smiths News shares the same passion for customer service and because we visit thousands of local retailers every day, we are uniquely placed to deliver a twice-daily pick-up service that is second to none in speed and convenience.”
