GoCompare bites back after The Big Deal’s claims that price comparison websites are hiding cheapest deals
Price comparison website GoCompare has hit back at energy site The Big Deal’s claims that “all the major price comparison websites” are hiding the cheapest deals from customers.
The Big Deal conducted research on Compare the Market, Confused, GoCompare, MoneySupermarket and uSwitch, and has called on the government to take action over its findings. The company said it believes the research “shows that these sites may be breaking EU consumer protection law”.
Jeremy Cryer, energy spokesperson at Gocompare.com, stated: “The Big Deal’s findings just don’t stack up.” He said that GoCompare allows customers to compare over 150 tariffs and while it makes clear that many of those tariffs are available to buy through the website, it also allows customers to view other options without having to leave the results screen.
Cryer added: “By comparison, The Big Deal only provides people with access to one tariff with no guarantee at all that it is market leading. It doesn’t compare that tariff against any other deals.”
