DAVID Cameron was guest of honour at the British Curry Awards on Monday evening, telling a packed Battersea Evolution centre that he would do more to help the industry flourish. The Prime Minister also proved that politics isn’t the only place he diverges from his Labour counterpart; after Ed Miliband revealed on Desert Island Discs that his luxury would be a weekly Chicken Tikka, Cameron disclosed – via his Twitter account – that he much prefered a Rogan Josh. While the PM received a warm welcome from attendees, the same could perhaps not be said for host Chris Tarrant, whose grumbles about the dodgy autocue and long speeches by winners were met with weary silence as the night wore on. A colourful array of curry dishes was served with a bag of good old British chips – a nod that seemed to go down well with guests at the event founded by entrepreneur Enam Ali MBE.
Attendees were further cheered when they spotted a large sign directing them towards dodgems. Given their adeptness at side-stepping tricky questions in their day jobs, The Capitalist was surprised not to have spotted the PM – or indeed fellow guest Chris Grayling MP – trying their hand on the track.
