League One: Sleepy Orient hope to continue dream with Wembley triumph
LEYTON ORIENT 2 PETERBOROUGH UNITED 1
(Orient win 3-2 on aggregate)
LEYTON Orient boss Russell Slade believes his club have reached an exciting new chapter in their history after winning last night’s League One play-off semi-final second leg.
Dean Cox volleyed in the opener before Chris Dagnall came off the bench to bag the 100th goal of his career. Conor Washington pulled a goal back for Peterborough to set-up a grandstand finish, but the O’s had done enough to reach Wembley.
Slade said: “We’ve been a sleeping East End football club, but this is like a new club has been born. There’s a real togetherness, it’s been a fantastic journey and there’s one more stop now.
“Peterborough played well and nearly got back it in, but we deserved it on the balance of play.”
Rotherham host Preston tomorrow in the other semi-final, which is evenly balanced after the weekend’s first leg finished 1-1. The final will be played on 25 May.
