Pellegrini not expecting City to topple Bayern for group victory
MANCHESTER City manager Manuel Pellegrini is resigned to finishing second in Group D, despite beating Viktoria Plzen 4-2 at the Etihad Stadium last night.
City were twice pegged back after Sergio Aguero and Samir Nasri had put them in front, but late strikes from Alvaro Negredo and Edin Dzeko sealed the points.
However, a 3-1 victory for group leaders Bayern Munich at CSKA Moscow means City will have to pull off victory by a three-goal margin at the Allianz Arena to usurp the holders.
Pellegrini has little hope for such a scenario and expects to see his side finish as runners-up meaning they would play the winner of a rival group in the last 16.
“We must wait for the draw in December, but for sure we are going to have a tough game, we will see who finishes first in the other groups,” said Pellegrini. “We didn’t play well. They had a lot of chances but eventually we won.”
