North London streets turn red as Arsenal celebrate FA Cup victory
HUNDREDS of thousands of jubilant Arsenal supporters lined the streets of Islington yesterday to celebrate the north London team’s 3-2 victory over Hull City in Saturday’s FA Cup final. The Gunners’ victorious players were driven on open-top buses between the club’s Emirates stadium and Islington Town Hall on Upper Street, a day after they secured the team’s first major trophy since 2005. Crowd numbers were estimated at 250,000. Manager Arsene Wenger, who has now lifted the FA Cup five times, addressed fans outside the stadium. “Our players are great, but our fans are even better,” the 64-year-old Frenchman said. “We would like to thank our fans really deeply, we realise how much they love our club and we are grateful for that.” Wenger is expected to sign a new three-year contract this week.
