Hamilton bids to rally rivals
WORLD championship leader Lewis Hamilton hopes rival teams prove to be more competitive at this weekend’s Monaco Grand Prix with Mercedes having dominated the season so far.
Hamilton has won the last four grands prix and leads team-mate Nico Rosberg, who won the opening race of the season, by three points in the drivers standings.
Reigning champion Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull and Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso have had to contend with just a pair of podium finishes between them in five races so far.
But Hamilton, 29, insists he would relish their revival at the street circuit.
“I’m hoping we have a closer race,” said the Englishman.
“It would be cool if there were Ferraris and Red Bulls in the mix.
“I’m racing my team-mate [Rosberg], so I do have competition and I’m grateful for that.”
