Young Lions win European title
ENGLAND Under-17s retained the European Championship trophy last night, after defeating Holland in the final on penalties.
Following a 1-1 draw in normal time, where Chelsea’s Dominic Solanke had given England the lead, John Peacock’s team were forced to contest a dreaded penalty shootout, so often the undoing of their senior counterparts.
But successful spot-kicks from captain Ryan Ledson of Everton, Lens’ Taylor Moore, Middlesborough’s Callum Cooke and Everton defender Jonjoe Kenny, plus heroics from Newcastle goalkeeper Freddie Woodman, saw the Three Lions to victory.
