Chelsea captain phones fan over Mourinho gripe
CHELSEA skipper John Terry yesterday telephoned a fan to sympathise with the cost of supporting the club in response to an impassioned message on social media following Jose Mourinho’s condemnation of the Stamford Bridge atmosphere.
Mourinho angered some of the Chelsea faithful by complaining of a lack of noise during their Premier League victory against Queens Park Rangers on Saturday and noting the situation had worsened since his first spell with the club.
The fan, 18-year-old Joe Davies, felt compelled to contact Terry about the rising cost of following the club. The cheapest priced adult ticket for their lowest category of match is £52, though the club says it has frozen prices for four consecutive seasons.
“As much as we all love Jose, his comments were not called for and were completely bang out of order for people who pay ridiculous prices each week to watch Chelsea,” read Davies’ Instagram message.
“It has become so expensive following football now that many proper fans are being priced out of going to Stamford Bridge and being replaced by tourists who of course won’t be singing or making noise.”
Terry contacted the young supporter after asking for his phone number and is said to have been receptive to his concerns and vowed to raise the issue with the Chelsea board.
Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero, meanwhile, insists it is vital his side remain in hot pursuit of league leaders Chelsea as it is inevitable the Blues will drop points “Chelsea are doing vey well and they keep winning but we have to go on and I’m sure they will drop some points,” he said. “They play Liverpool at the weekend and we’ll see if they drop points.”
