We don’t need to sell Wilshere, warns Wenger
ARSENAL manager Arsene Wenger has warned midfielder Jack Wilshere’s suitors that the club’s financial strength means that their days of selling key players to rival clubs are behind them.
Manchester City are said to be interested in Wilshere, having already raided the Gunners for Emmanuel Adebayor, Kolo Toure, Gael Clichy, Samir Nasri and Bacary Sagna in the last six years alone.
Wenger has also reluctantly sold captains Cesc Fabregas and Robin van Persie in recent times, but the Frenchman indicated yesterday that he does not intend to let Wilshere follow them and expects the fit-again 23-year-old to star in the final weeks of the campaign.
“We are not in a position any more where we have to sell our best players,” said the Arsenal boss, who also has defender Mathieu Debuchy and midfielders Mikel Arteta and Abou Diaby back in contention for tomorrow’s Premier League fixture at Burnley.
“Everybody can have a big impact until the end of the season, Jack included. Every player is very frustrated when he can’t perform. Diaby and [Theo] Walcott have been out for a year.”
