Van Gaal will make United title winners again, predicts Cantona
MANCHESTER United great Eric Cantona has backed Louis van Gaal to complete a spectacular turnaround in the club’s fortunes by delivering the Premier League title next season.
Van Gaal has recovered from a miserable start which saw United lie 10th in November after just three wins from their first 10 top-flight games and suffer Capital One Cup humiliation at third tier MK Dons.
Sunday’s 4-2 derby win over Manchester City tightened United’s grip on a Champions League qualifying spot once considered beyond them, and Cantona expects Van Gaal’s side to be even better next term.
“United’s a great club, so sometimes you have a season when you have to lose games and you finish fourth, fifth. But it’s a great club. It will be at the top of the table,” said the Frenchman, who won four Premier League titles at United.
“They came back and next year they can win the league. A manager from Holland, it seems to be important for Manchester United because it’s the same kind of philosophy for the game: Holland and Manchester United.”
