Hot tickets for General Election fever: From Finsbury’s 2am Villandry breakfast to LSE’s private party
Just over three weeks to go before the big day and party planners are sending out invitations to celebrate the result of what is predicted to be the closest General Election in decades.
Among the top exclusive executive party crop (at £60 a head) is the bash at the Institute of Directors whose plush HQ in London’s Pall Mall will feature legendary impressionist Rory Bremner, who will be a winner whomever gets into Number 10. Serious analysis will be provided by the IOD’s chief economist and director of policy James Sproule and the bar will be open until 3am with java and bacon rolls for those attempting to pull an all-nighter.
One of the hottest tickets on the financial PR circuit arrives from Finsbury whose chairman Roland Rudd is hosting an invite-only do at the Villandry St James. Guests will include some of the city’s biggest players. Drinks commence just after 7pm and breakfast will be served at 2am.
For those of an academic persuasion the London School of Economics is hosting a private party with cosy analysis and panel discussion groups.
But it might be all a far cry from the parties of yore. City grandee David Buik of stockbrokers Panmure Gordon said: “These things don’t happen the way they used to. They used to be the absolute highlights, the days of my life. In the past we used to host parties in the Ritz….The authorities are not massively keen on over-entertainment,” the great man grumbled.
