Reed to buy US healthcare data business to boost Lexis Nexis
EUROPE’S largest media group Reed Elsevier yesterday agreed to buy a US healthcare data firm, in a deal City A.M. understands to be worth around $150m (£95.27m), to boost its Lexis Nexis business in the world’s largest healthcare market.
Health Market Science is data supplier for healthcare professionals in the US with a vast medical claims database which it uses to crack down on overspending and fraud.
“Doctor, hospital and health system data fuel every aspect of a health insurer’s operations – from claims’ processing to patient satisfaction, doctor participation and fraud detection – having the most current and comprehensive information on healthcare professionals is key to running an efficient healthcare system,” Reed said in a statement.
