Harlequins sign Stanley and aim for Roberts next
HARLEQUINS boss Conor O’Shea has confirmed the club’s interest in signing Wales centre Jamie Roberts, who is set to leave French side Racing Metro at the end of the season.
Roberts’ former outfit Cardiff Blues have also held talks with the experienced 28-year-old, who has won 69 caps for Wales and toured with the British and Irish Lions on two occasions.
“We would love to have someone of his ability – mentally and physically. It’s his decision, and I know it’s a big decision for Jamie,” said Quins director of rugby O’Shea, whose side are set to miss out on the Premiership play-offs.
“If we could get someone of Jamie’s ability it would be a big statement of what we are about. But that’s his decision and we will respect whatever he does.”
Quins have already secured the signing of Roberts’ former international colleague Adam Jones and Scotland winger Tim Visser for next season, and yesterday confirmed the summer addition of Australia-born Samoa centre Winston Stanley from New Zealand side the Highlanders.
