South West Trains will be “cancelled, delayed or revised” until 9pm at least after a person was hit by a train
Trains across the whole South West network are facing severe disruption after a person was hit by a train earlier today.
The operator warned that trains could be “cancelled, delayed by up to 90 minutes or revised at short notice”, with disruption expected to last well into rush hour.
Originally the group had estimated the problems would be resolved by 7pm, but has now pushed this back to 9pm.
The incident took place between Wimbledon and Surbiton. Although lines have now reopened, customers are being advised to use alternative routes home.
“Due to the key location of this incident and time that the lines were blocked we expect disruption to continue throughout the evening,” South West Trains said.
“We anticipate having our suburban (inner London) running on time from 16:00, our mainline (long distance) services should running normally from approximately 19:00.
“Trains are likely to be busier than usual as we have been unable to run a full service this afternoon.”
