The Beatles’ Abbey Road album cover photographs: Bidders gather to snap up Ian Macmillan pics
It is one of the world’s best-known and loved album covers and it has caused mayhem for drivers on Abbey Road for 40 years, as music fans strive to recreate the scene.
But yesterday was another big day for The Beatles’ Abbey Road album cover shot. The photograph and a set of outtakes were sold at Dreweatts & Bloomsbury Auctions, owned by Stanley Gibbons, for £180,000 to a foreign buyer.
Several telephone bidders and one room bidder competed to win the famous photo and its unused versions, taken by Iain Macmillan in 1969. The winning bid was followed by a round of applause from the room.
