Black Friday UK 2014: John Lewis gears up for weekend shopping frenzy as sales growth slows
John Lewis said yesterday it was gearing up for this weekend’s shopping frenzy that begins with Black Friday, as sales growth slowed over the past week.
Sales in the week ending Saturday 22 November rose to £114.2m, 2.1 per cent up on the same period last year and a five per cent rise on the previous week. That compares with sales of £108.8m in the week to 15 November, when they grew by 13.7 per cent week-on-week.
Fashion performed well despite warm weather, with sales up three per cent, while the launch of the latest iPad last year meant sales of electricals were down 0.8 per cent.
The Christmas shopping season will kick off in earnest on Friday when John Lewis and other retailers tempt shoppers by cutting prices on thousands of products.
“We’re hard at work behind the scenes to ensure that our shops and johnlewis.com are ready to meet increased demand,” it said.
