Tottenham and Chelsea hero Greaves suffers severe stroke
WORLD Cup-winning former England, Tottenham and Chelsea striker Jimmy Greaves was last night in intensive care after suffering a severe stroke.
The 75-year-old, recognised as one of the most talented goalscorers in the English football history, netted 44 in 57 games for the national team, behind only Sir Bobby Charlton, Gary Lineker and Wayne Rooney. He also registered a club record 266 in 379 matches for Spurs – a feat which is due to see him inducted into their Hall of Fame next week – and 132 in 169 for Chelsea, where he started his career.
Greaves, who also later played for West Ham, suffered a minor stroke in 2012 but was believed to have made a full recovery. His family said: “Jimmy Greaves suffered a severe stroke on Sunday 3 May, and is in intensive care in hospital.”
