Title glory lands Mourinho a rise
CHELSEA are expected to reward Jose Mourinho for masterminding their return to the pinnacle of English football by offering him a new improved contract.
Mourinho’s current deal, which is believed to be worth £8.5m a year, expires in 2017 but he has made it clear that he would like to stay at Stamford Bridge beyond that term.
A pay rise would cement the 52-year-old’s status as the Premier League’s best-paid manager but it would require a generous hike from Blues owner Roman Abramovich to eclipse Bayern Munich coach Pep Guardiola, who is thought to take home a world-leading £14m salary.
Chelsea clinched their first Premier League title since 2010 on Sunday when they beat Crystal Palace 1-0 to build an unassailable lead in the table.
Midfielder Oscar, meanwhile, is set to miss the remainder of the season and this summer’s Copa America after the Brazil star suffered an injury in training.
